Funny how if you have klout and post nothing it still makes news.

Pete’s got a great online following and here is an example how he posted no link and still got loads of responses…hahah just for fun. We all forget links at times. He may have done it on purpose, however. Maybe we’ll find out in a follow up?

We all assumed he forgot the link, but perhaps he was being coy?

It doesn’t matter. I commented how we’ve all done this before for sure. For him its funny because he gets 88 comments possibly before checking (which shows you how when you have a higher engagement rate that you need to check posts within the first 10-15 minutes instead of the usual 30 minutes suggested by many).

Digital Media Moves Quicker Than Twitter01 Nov

Growing With the Digital Media Age

With technology and digital media and marketing moving at record speeds, think about how your company can stay ahead of competitors.

up stairs chart Digital Media Moves Quicker Than Twitter

The number of apps downloaded will leap from 7 billion this year to nearly 50 billion next year.

Let that sink in for a bit – not that that’s all too surprising, the way digital media is moving. Babies born today play with iPads and iPhones, and will probably learn more about digital tools and products before they’re five years old just by playing with them while their parents are busy – ever see the YouTube video of the baby trying to make images bigger on a magazine because she was used to playing with an iPad? It’s already happening.

Therefore, companies need to be ahead of the game. That baby? And hundreds of other babies like that baby? They’re your future consumers. And one other thing – at the rate technology is moving, that generation of babies is going to grow up knowing technology, get used to things moving quickly and all the new apps, and they’ll get impatient when companies don’t have an app out there that makes their lives easier.

Now, back to the earlier stat: The number of apps downloaded will leap from 7 billion this year to nearly 50 billion next year.

That stat was taken from a 2010 study by GetJar, the world’s second largest app store, which also said that the market for mobile device software programs should rocket to 17.5 billion dollars (US) within three years.

Apps are where it’s at. Think about it: How often are you at home, but rather than go to your desktop computer or laptop, you’ll use your phone to look something up or use an app to order food/pay your bills/tweet what you’re doing? It’s probably often enough that really makes this stat resonate. In addition, the tablet’s usage is only increasing, not decreasing, which means laptops may soon become a thing of the past. Know what that means? That’s right – laptops don’t use apps, but tablets do.

Where is Digital Media Going?

Therefore, if you’re thinking of how your company can progress and where it can go from here, the answer is, keep moving. The key with digital media is it’s constantly moving and changing – what apps can your company provide to stay ahead of the curve, and help your customers stay ahead of the curve, too? What apps can you create to help your customers in general? What can make their lives more convenient while using your products? Thinking about how the masses use digital media is key to moving ahead in this market.

September 11th, 2011 9/11 Memorial. Important day for NYC.11 Sep

Today, these photos are a little grey and darkened, but it seemed fitting during the Sept 11th, 2011 Memorial. Here are some first hand accounts I took while walking around Lower Manhattan today.

Today was an interesting day. I personally have only been in NYC since July 4th of 2011, and remember watching the 9/11 events unfold on Cnn.com whilst working in Silicon Valley north ten years ago….So much has happened since.

To learn more, I recently watched a History Channel biography of the events of that day and have been exploring the city, so to see things and understand the geography (I’m in Lower Manhattan, about 5 city blocks from WTC) it made things much more ‘close to home’.

This is from Battery Park:

There are still many unanswered questions, but I felt today was a day of respect for those who perished both in the planes and on the ground or inside the towers. I don’t know how to possibly fathom what was going through the minds of the people inside the buildings that couldn’t get down, nor those on planes who when they attacked the hijackers, were then doomed. It’s super tragic and extremely hard to think about.

Today I took some photos and videos to share with those who couldn’t be here. I wasn’t at the memorial as I didn’t have anyone I knew involved, but NYC was bustling with people today, tons of police and it was a strange grey day without any sun.

See here how there is a flag hanging from the crane during a pause in construction for the memorial services today, attended by George W. Bush and Barack Obama and families.

CNN did feature a cool story today about the rescue dogs of 9/11.

Jack Layton Leaves Last Letter, Steve Jobs Leaves Last CEO Letter.24 Aug

So today there was an announcement that Steve Jobs (CEO of Apple-> you know, the guys who make the iPhone and the Macbook Pros I rock with?) Just stepped down as CEO of Apple Inc.

Ironically just hours ago this happened.

I, my friends, have made a deal with the devil. Apple themselves…via a christian friend/fellow nerd to acquire an iPhone 5 the day it comes out.

In Canada only.

Let’s talk Canada for a minute:

Why does any type of IT service priced like England but only work like a 3rd world country? At least when compared to our southern counterparts.

I feel that in Canada our networks simply can’t handle what is now considered standard upload speeds throughout the big US cities. You can only pay for nothing more than 1 to 2 Mbps uploads anywhere and no 4G coming anytime soon?

No wonder Rogers is scared, they and Ma Bell should be if they want to compete. I’m sure they’re building it, but why not use Google’s Whitespaces plan while your at it? hmmm. See- > http://www.freepress.net/whitespaces. Oh I love Digital news and can’t wait to launch our Digital Product Reviews Sections.

So In The USA, I’m using an Android EVO 3D because its a DUAL processor, the fastest phone I’ve ever seen, and it shoots in 2d AND 3d with its two cameras.

Photo on 2011 07 11 at 19.00 Jack Layton Leaves Last Letter, Steve Jobs Leaves Last CEO Letter.

Also has a front facing camera and can run Double Twist, and iPhone app that’s much like iTunes without ANY file restrictions. Sweet.

Let’s talk about something political, I’m not writing the news, I’m reporting it: I’m a Canadian living in the USA & Canada for work reasons. This offers us a digital technology perspective that’s a bit unique to both industries. For example, to understand why a client may sell well on different keywords in the USA as opposed to Canada. -> e.g. Someone wants a fun place for kids in Canada, searches a term. Someone in USA wants a daycare… perhaps…searches the same term. DIFFERENT Target market and will convert at a different rate due to population’s effect on web traffic in densely populated regions with different housing needs and divorce rates.

Jack Layton

So in Canada, one of the top rated political people has just passed away and left a ‘last letter‘…. Here’s his:

Today Jack Layton laid in state in Ottawa Canada, and the respects were paid by many Canadians as ‘the best prime minister we never had’.

If Stephen Harper were to suddenly drop dead, what would happen? the same response?

Thoughts?
