SEO Social Media & Twitter Conferences
That I (Aaron) Plan To Attend And Recommend YOU Attend As Well!
At the end of the summer, (well for most even though the california summer just kinda started, it will last till november we hope!) i’ll be attending several conferences.
First of which is the Woot! Search and Social event in Hawaii. I’m very excited about this ‘learning vacation’ where they have team building events such as kayaking, inner tubing in the forest and more. This should be pretty amazing and there are tons of talented search marketing folks attending. It will be a little more intimate as the mainstream crowd likely wouldn’t be there. There are great prices for this, just visit http://wappow.com/searchandsocial/ .
Some more info:
***I personally have 3 discount coupons left for people I know where the pricing is as follows:
Networking Pass: $275 (Regular $986) – Welcome Reception, Luau, Cocktails and Dinner Day 2 (purchase up to 3)
Essential Pass: $850 (Not Available to Public) – Conference Day 1, Conference Day 2, and Conference Day 3 (purchase up to 3)
If you know me and would like to come, or don’t know me but want my discounts, DM me on Twitter. If you can’t yet, just follow @KRONiS me, and @reply that you want to go please make sure to use the #SSWoot hashtag and as long as I have coupons left.

140 Character Conference – Oct 4th & 5th @ The Music Box in Los Angeles
I’ve met some great people as a result of the 140 conference last year, and I think it would be silly to miss it this year. I’m hoping to share my story with the crowd at future events and plan to attend this year and take it all in, while networking with friends and colleagues from all of the search events!
At past events I’ve met several musicians who are on the scene, some movie stars, last year @JenFriel started up Talk Nerdy To Me Lover the same time as the conference, now she has a movie deal and a staff running the website. NOT TOO SHABBY. Also we met @JeanneteJoy who is a joy to know!
Pubcon Las Vegas
This was my first ever conference in Las Vegas, attending in 2007 as an SEO specialist afer starting up Wpromote’s SEO division week’s prior. I learned a hell of a lot and managed to win Shoemoney and Izea’s “RockStartUp” contest which got me $1000 cash, a trip to the SXSW Interactive conference where we shot a reality show episode for Izea with Shoemoney. I got to meet a lot of folks in the bloghouse and it was a helpful kickstart to my career.
This year, Pubcon Dallas already occurred and was great. I got to speak about Information architecture with Ted Ulle, also I will be speaking again in Vegas with Ted in a Spotlight Session as well as on a great SEO/SEM Tools Panel with other rockstars like Rand Fishkin (SEOmoz.org) and Jon Henshaw (Raven Tools)

Ethical Hacking and Positive ways to ‘hack’ in today’s IT world22 Apr
Ethical Hacking
Part of ensuring that your IT department is doing things properly is testing out your security strategies. Thousands and thousands of dollars are spent on Penetration Testing by large companies who fear that they may be easily compromised. Wouldn’t it be super cool to have the ability to help a company tighten up their security? With some training you could soon be an ethical hacker with this ability.
The whole idea here is to ‘ethically hack’ your own sites to ensure their security levels are acceptable. With the rise of EVERYTHING going digital, the risks are definitely going to be larger as time progresses.
To learn more, perhaps sign up for some classes to be a security expert, learn how to create and maintain a proper DMZ or De-Militarized Zone on your network, which may be your last defense against any cyber attacks.
Learn about things like ‘honey pots’ which are areas on your network designed to ‘allow’ hackers an area to seemingly break into while you actually observe their behavior to assist in identifying if they are a real threat or not and possibly to identify where their connection is originating from and why.
This field is ever expanding with the rising payscales for intrusion detection and more and more security related positions opening up. Perhaps it is time to reevaluate your Role in IT Security and increase your knowledge base about exploits and holes in your current server setups.
Some points of interest include:
The Hacking Cycle – You will learn how to get Certification as an ‘Ethical Hacker’ (CEH) so that you can hack according to the law and not be worried about any ‘wrongful’ prosecutions based on your ability to penetrate client’s vulnerable servers.
So get Certified today by the EC-Council where the Training Modality can depend on which type of IT security hacking has been achieved in specific situations already and by real world example. Topics covered by the EC-Council include the following:
-Security Fundamentals
-Ethical Hacking
-Penetration Testing
-Computer Forensics
-Disaster Recovery
-Secure Programming
Wouldn’t it be super cool to get paid to ‘hack’ stuff and be ‘ethical’ about it without any worries?

Social Spark – a great way to earn money from your blog26 Apr
I while back I wrote a post about ‘How to Monetize your website‘ – Now, when I wrote that my goal was to learn new and fresh ways to start making money off the Internet. It seems that one of the ways to monetize is by blogging about topics for others who are promoting things of interest and relevance to your blog community. As the ‘Digital Vegetarian’ is really about learning all things Internet and lots of other fun stuff, this is an easy site to work with on this front. I can talk about anything I want, of course my goal is to talk about what my readers are interested in.
As some of you know I won the ‘Shoeperstar‘ contest put on by IZEA Inc. and Shoemoney which allowed me to participate in SXSW Interactive with those folks and shoot an episode of the reality series, ‘RockStartup‘ that follows the IZEA crew and their efforts. They’ve recently created and launched a new interesting platform and community for bloggers and advertisers to get together for the purpose of helping match up great blogs and content that is relevant with new content that would fit well. The system in place at Social Spark allows for this to be much better managed by all parties.
The bloggers simply browse the current opportunities that are posted by the advertisers. If you decide to accept an opportunity, once approved you will have a ‘timeslot’ within which to create a post on your blog. This is all managed by the social spark system and is relatively straightforward once you get the hang of a few posts.
As shown below, you simply ‘browse’ the opportunities in the ‘Marketplace’ section of SocialSpark.
What’s nice about this system is that it was designed by the creators’ of Pay-Per-Post who have learned from their previous work what works and what doesn’t from the valuable feedback they have received from users all along.
Important to note, is that the code of ethics is highly respected and enforced.
- 100% Audit-able ‘In-Post Disclosure’
- 100% Transparency
- 100% Real Opinions
- 100% Search Engine Friendly.
This post was made about Social Spark as an exercise for our readers and to spread the word about this great new ‘manageable’ way for bloggers to find things to blog about and make money at the same time.
Till Next time,
Aaron – Digital Vegetarian
